Our Fave Highstreet Makeup Products

In Beauty News and Tips, Brand Spotlight, Makeup

I know how hard it is to walk into your favourite drugstore or make-up counter and find things that you need, then your relief turns to sadness, due to brands having a small amount of shades. Or not even having your shade for that matter! Which has happened to me before.

So I have brought to you, my favourite products or products that I’d love to purchase as I can rely on these brands to produce enough shades in their range, to create my favourite makeup looks.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless

You’re actually getting a sneak peek of what I think about this foundation as it will be in my October Favourites post. How lucky are you? But, yes, this is the first time I’ve actually tried this foundation and I am obsessed. As I have combination skin, this is perfect for me. I used go out with a full face of make-up on and come home looking like a sweaty oily mess and it’s not a good look.

But I feel like Maybelline have a great range of shades, and to be honest, I’ve saw more darker shades in the collection, so it definitely wasn’t hard for me to find a shade, which is perfect. Even online there was more colour shades. So it’s a win win for us, WOC! Of course, if your skin is more dry, there is the normal Fit Me foundation which I highly rate as well, but because my skin gets oily, it’s best for me to use Matte and Poreless.

With these foundations, what I love is that they don’t make my skin look ashy/pale or dead-looking. Because I’m sure we’ve all been there, thinking we matched our foundation right or got a store assistant to help and it turns out to be pale. Worst thing ever. So you haven’t got to worry! Medium to full coverage, buildable and surprisingly light on the skin. With some brands, matte foundations feel heavy on the skin and you can feel that it’s there, but with Matte and Poreless, it feels like your skin, and I honestly forgot I was wearing it until I looked in the mirror and seen how flawless it made me look.

L’Oreal Paris True Match

After I had seen their new campaign for their foundations, I was instantly drawn to it. When a brand releases a wide range of colour shades. I know they’re going to be amazing. And like I said, because there is such a wide range of shades, you can’t go wrong. Also, I love that they included so many bloggers and social media influencers in this campaign, as for me personally, I like look up to them more than your traditional celebrities that do make-up adverts, all the time… No shade to Cheryl, but people like Yasmine Chanel, Lydia Millen, Emily Canham and Katie Piper – They’re such amazing people that I love and I get so happy to see them included in this campaign.

The shade range is insane, and the formula I like as it’s buildable. Like every other foundation I tend to buy. I prefer a foundation that feels light on the skin, feels like skin, rather than a layer of makeup on my face, but also gives me the coverage I want. It’s not thick at all, it’s the perfect consistency. And I need to grab another bottle soon!

L’Oréal’s #1 foundation is now available in 23 shades and matches 98% of UK skin tones. L’Oréal’s velvety formula matches your skin’s unique tone and texture, for a true to skin finish: flawless, blendable, and never fake.

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal

21 shades and 6 correcting shades… How can you not appreciate that?! I absolutely love these as they are incredible high coverage. But buildable if you apply a little amount. To be honest, a little goes a long way with these concealers. Also the applicator is my favourite thing about it as well, I prefer it so much as it’s like a mini brush, not a doe foot applicator. And it’s so inexpensive as well! It might be cheap, but the quality is amazing!

Used to even skin tone, blur fine lines and conceal dark circles for a face free of imperfections.Long wearing and crease-resistant, PRO.conceal HD High Definition Concealer is available in a variety of shades to cover and correct all skin types and tones. Due to its lightweight texture both a corrector and concealer can be applied simultaneously to achieve a perfectly covered yet beautifully natural look.

Powder and Cream Contour:

NYX Cosmetics Highlight & Contour Pro palette

If your budget is more on the affordable side, then I highly recommend NYX Cosmetics and this contour and highlight palette. It is only £18 and you can re-fill the palette if a shade has ran out! But I worked out that it is cheaper to buy the WHOLE palette then buy all 8 shades individually.

I only use the banana shade and the 4 bottom shades because the other top shades I’m not a fan of. But the bottom ones…Yes! I use all 4 for different things. One to contour my nose, one for overall bronze and one for contour. Our faces need depth, because they aren’t naturally flat. And it’s my favourite powder contour palette. It’s such a dupe for these high end ones you see. And like I said.. So much cheaper!

Define your features like a pro with our refillable highlight and contour palette! Each set includes eight customisable highlighting and contouring shades, perfect for emphasising your favourite features.

Sleek Cream Contour kit

Sleek have to have one of my favourite, inexpensive drugstore brands. The quality of their products are insane for such affordable prices. But their contour kit has to be one of the best products I’ve used by them. They’re so creaming and don’t feel ‘cakey’ what so ever. As I’ve had a contour kit from another brand and when blending them out it’s fine but then looks cakey and drying on my skin.

Sleek’s kit doesn’t do that. And the fact that they 3 different kits. Not just one kit for everyone. 3 DIFFERENT ONES FROM LIGHT, MEDIUM AND DARK! Sleek came through everyone!

I love that there is 8 shades from the lightest in that specific shade to the darkest, as everyone uses different shades for different area’s of the face. In fact, I once used one of the shades for foundation, but mixed it with a little bit of oil to make it less thick as my foundation had ran out and I couldn’t be bothered going out to buy a knew one, so I used a little bit and blended out and it somehow worked for me! And also use it for concealing if my concealer has ran out! MULTI-USE PEOPLE!

The next generation of contouring has arrived! This palette contains two highlighting and four contouring ultra-blendable shades that work together to help you achieve a perfectly contoured complexion.

  • Sculpt, define and enhance to create the illusion of refined features, higher cheekbones, a softer jawline, or a slimmer nose
  • The velvety smooth, buildable cream formulas blend seamlessly onto the skin for a flawless, fade-proof finish
  • Expertly developed combination of shades that work with your skin tone to create natural shadows and highlights
